Kosmonauci

Kosmonauci

When we pay close attention to the harmony within a band, we usually find an old acquaintance at its core. The Kosmonauci band is exactly like that. We are convinced they are very good kids. REALLY.

When I first listened to the track “KOSMOCHOOJUWA”, I suddenly heard that scream vocal, smiled involuntarily, and instantly said, “I absolutely have to watch them live!” Before writing this piece, I played the band’s songs for a few people around me and asked them to describe the types of guys they pictured in their minds. The answers were generally “bald, bearded, and probably hipster-looking middle-aged men.” Yet the reality is completely different: NONE of them are bald YET! They might have a slightly rebellious look, but they are youths with great smiles and pure hearts. Without further ado, let’s get to know them closely, just as they define themselves, and while you dive into the depths of their albums, we’ll continue with the article.

Kosmonauci is an extraordinary music band that takes its roots from jazz traditions and blends its musical language with hip-hop, drum & bass, and improvisation. This instrumental lineup, consisting of Miłosz Pieczonka on saxophone, Bartłomiej Lucjan on bass guitar, Tymon Kosma on vibraphone, and Jan Pieniążek on percussion, creates a unique style specific to the group, fluctuating between emotional melodies and polyrhythmic structures.

Their musical roots trace back to the jazz traditions from the 1950s to the 1990s. However, their current sound is much more diverse and rich, thanks to their journey of discovery within genres like hip-hop, drum & bass, alternative pop, and the contemporary London Yass scene. Their flawless harmony is no coincidence. They have known each other since elementary school and have been playing together since high school. They went to school together, attended concerts, and practically grew up together musically. They are all music school graduates. Their classical music and jazz education provides them with an incredibly wide range of possibilities in the fields of improvisation, performance, and composition. Each of them has their own individual style and different sources of inspiration, but these differences find a common denominator under the Kosmonauci umbrella, creating their unique execution and sound.

Although they have been active on stage in Poland and abroad since 2018, it took until 2024 for us to get their first album.

“Sorry, nie tu” (2024)

The band’s debut album, “Sorry, nie tu,” is a work where Kosmonauci discovers new ways to draw from different musical genres—which seem very distant from each other at first glance—and integrates them into their music over time. To summarize the feel of the album: it has a broadly chaotic yet equally balanced cohesion.

“Brudna – Bielizna” (2026)

The second album, “Brudna – Bielizna,” which met the listeners on April 3, 2026, consists of compositions created over the last two years that evolved alongside the band during concerts. Even though Kosmonauci continues to explore different genres in this album, this time they display a stance that is much more focused on and connected to their jazz inspirations.

The album felt much more joyful to me compared to the first one. It has tracks that make you feel as if you are running in a Super Mario game with that stress of trying to pass a level. When I close my eyes, it’s as if mushrooms are popping up from the ground, and Jan is hitting them right on the head with his drumsticks.

My next goal is to watch the band live and update the article. Don’t forget to listen to the albums!!
